The American Alligator can be found in large shallow lakes, ponds, marshes, rivers, swamps, creeks and canals in fresh and brackish waters. They have even been spotted in swimming pools!!! Alligators become a nuisance when they have been spotted near high traffic areas frequented by people, wandering children and pets.
Most attacks associated with alligators occur when they have been approached and fed by humans and when they are defending their nests. It is important to not feed or approach an alligator and to swim only in designated areas. It is illegal to feed, tease, harass, capture, kill or molest alligators. If you come across an alligator contact a licensed professional.
